Pojarkowo ( Russian Поярково ) is a village (selo) in the Amur Oblast ( Russia ) with 6952 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is a good 100 km as the crow flies southeast of the Blagoveshchensk Oblast Administrative Center in the southeast part of the Seja-Bureja plain . It is located on the left bank of the left Amur -Armes Protoka Pojarkowskaja, which is separate from the main arm through the Poludenny Island ( "Meridian Island"). The main arm of the Amur, a good 5 km south of the village, forms the border with the People's Republic of China . On the western edge of the village, the Sawitaja flows into the Pojarkowskaja arm.

Pojarkowo is the administrative center of the Rajons Mikhailovsky and seat and only town in the rural community Pojarkowski selsowet.

history

The village was founded by Cossacks as Stanitsa in 1858, the year the Amur and Primorye regions were annexed to the Russian Empire according to the Treaty of Aigun , and named after the Cossack ataman and explorer of the 17th century Vasily Poyarkov .

In 1931, the administrative seat of the Mikhailovsky rajon, founded in 1926, was relocated from the eponymous village of Mikhailovka , 35 km to the north, to Pojarkowo. From 1963 to 1992 the place had the status of an urban-type settlement .

Pojarkowo is the end point of an 89 km long railway line opened in 1941 , which branches off the Trans-Siberian Railway in Sawitinsk ( Sawitaja station ) . A road that crosses the regional road R461 Blagoveshchensk - Raichichinsk  - Novobureiski east of Mikhailovka also leads from Sawitinsk on the M58 Chita  - Khabarovsk to Poyarkovo.
