2009 American Summer Biathlon Championships

The US American Summer Biathlon Championships were held from July 10th to 12th, 2009 in the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Biathlon Range in Lake Placid . The organizers were the New York Biathlon Clubs and the Olympic Regional Development Authority . The competitions were also qualifications for the 2009 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof . Competitions were held in the cross-country sprint, the pursuit and the mass start for women and men. The championships on roller skis were held in separate championships .

For the World Cup qualification, the results were converted into percentages. With this key, Sam Morse , Douglas Hoover , Danny Fink and Jason Hettenbaugh qualified for the World Cup, Keith Woodward was a substitute and Anthony Rizzo competed in the Junior World Championship. Stephanie Blackstone , who was also the most successful participant with all three possible titles, and Ann Sick had qualified for the women . Ann Sick referred her daughter Katie to third and thus no longer qualifying place.

At the start were 35 US biathletes as well as two Canadian and one Czech guest starters. Daniel Doherty and James Mattingly were disqualified according to IBU rule 5.5.1, Arie Niemi was given a two-minute time penalty according to IBU rule 5.5.a. Three qualified athletes did not start. The winner Duncan Douglas improved from eleventh place to the very front.
