Kristaps Lībietis

Kristaps Lībietis (born May 28, 1982 in Alūksne ) is a Latvian biathlete .

Kristaps Lībietis is married and has one child. He starts for the Juniors Aluksne club from his home town. He is trained by Intars Berkulis. Lībietis has been running biathlon since 1993 and has been part of the Latvian national team since 2003. The Latvian ran his first big race in 2000 as part of the Junior World Championship in summer biathlon , which was held in Khanty-Mansiysk . He won silver in the relay, bronze in the pursuit, and finished fifth in the sprint. This was followed by participation in the 2001 European Junior Championships in Haute-Maurienne , the World Junior Championships in the same year in Khanty-Mansiysk (fifth place with the relay) and the 2002 Junior World Championships in Ridanna , each without any major successes. Things went better at the 2002 Junior European Championship in Kontiolahti, where he won the bronze medal in the relay. The 2003 Junior World Championships in Kościelisko and the Junior European Championship of the Year in Forni Avoltri did not bring any results worth mentioning again. Things went better at the Junior World Championships in Summer Biathlon, which was also held in Forni Avoltri in 2003. Lībietis finished fifth in the pursuit, fourth in the mass start and won gold in the relay.

In 2004 the athlete first took part in a major senior-level event in Minsk . At the EM a sixth season rank was best result. At the World Championships in Summer Biathlon in Osrblie in the same year , Lībietis achieved a sixth place in the mass start as the best result. The European Championships 2006 in Langdorf and 2007 in Bansko brought just as little successes as the Biathlon World Championships 2004 in Oberhof (72nd in individual), in 2005 in Hochfilzen or 2007 in Antholz (71th in individual). In the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin Lībietis launched on three routes and made some of his best results in international races. He was 68th in the individual and reached 54th places in the sprint and pursuit. At the World Championships in Summer Biathlon 2007 in Otepää , a ninth place in the individual was his best result, with the relay he was fifth.

Lībietis made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in the 2000/01 season as part of a relay race (15th) in Ruhpolding . He contested his second race a year later in the same place again in the relay (16th). From the 2001/02 season he first competed in the Junior World Cup and won his only international race here in Obertilliach . From the 2003/04 season, Lībietis mostly started in the European Biathlon Cup and over time was also used more and more frequently in the World Cup. With the relay in December 2007, the Latvian achieved a top ten result for the first time in ninth place. In an individual race he was able to collect World Cup points for the first time as 37th in an individual at the start of the 2008/09 season in Östersund . It is also his best ranking so far. Kristaps Lībietis took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. His best result was 64th place in the sprint. With the relay, he finished 19th.
