Howhannes Sargsjan (Armenian: Հովհաննէս Սարգսյան; English transcription: Hovhannes Sargsyan ; born November 14, 1987 in Gyumri ) is an Armenian cross-country skier and biathlete .

Career

Howhannes Sargsjan lives in Gyumri, studies at the State University of Yerevan and starts for the Gyumri Winter Sports School . He made his international debut at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme . Over the 15-kilometer classic he was 87th and in the freestyle sprint 74th. In the double pursuit, he was not able to finish the race as a lapped athlete. A year later he took part in the Junior World Championships in Stryn and was 87th in the 10-kilometer freestyle and 83rd in the freestyle sprint. Then he took part in a race of the Continental Cup in Murmansk for the first time , other races in this series and its successors such as the Eastern Europe Cup and FIS races followed. In Oberstdorf participation in followed a year later Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 . Over 15-kilometer freestyle, Sargsjan reached place 107, was 76th in the classic sprint and with Edmond Khachatryan 24th in the freestyle team sprint. The following year career highlight for the Armenians followed with the participation in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin . At the competitions in Pragelato he was 88th over 15-kilometer classic, 79th of the freestyle sprint and with Khachatryan 23rd of the classic team sprint. In 2007 he took part in the Junior World Championships for the last time. In Tarvisio , Sargsyan was 84th in the 10-kilometer freestyle and 82nd in the pursuit. In 2009 , the Armenian took part in a world championship for the third time in Liberec . In the freestyle sprint, he placed 92nd, in the pursuit race he did not finish. In February 2011 he took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo for the last time . He finished 108th in the sprint and 106th place over 15 km classic.

In biathlon, Sargsyan has only appeared internationally in the cross-country biathlon variant . At the junior competitions of the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Otepää , he was 45th of the sprint. In the mixed relay he was no longer used because Knarik Miralyan, who ran in front of him, was eliminated. The first participation in a major event in the men's performance area was participation in the 2010 Summer Biathlon European Championships in Osrblie . With Samwel Torossjan, Armenians represented their country for the first time at a major biathlon event. Sargsyan finished 35th in the sprint with seven shooting errors and, like his compatriot, did not take part in the pursuit.
