Mali originally came from cross-country skiing. Here she contested since 1995 (52nd place in a 5-kilometer race in Davos ) World Cup races . She is particularly successful as a sprinter. Even after switching to biathlon, Mali continues to start sporadically in the cross-country world cup. For example, she started sprinting at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and finished seventh. At the World Championships she took in 1997 in Trondheim , 1999 in Ramsau , 2001 in Lahti and 2003 in Val di Fiemme - last only in the sprint - with no greater success in part.
