The 28th Biathlon World Championships took place from February 9th to 14th, 1993 in the Bulgarian winter sports resort Borovets in the Rila Mountains .
For the first time, the women's relay consisted of four participants per nation, and the length of the route was increased from 5 km to 7.5 km for each runner.
In 1992, because of the Winter Olympics in Albertville, there were only the world championships in the non-Olympic team competition. The following year was also a year with the Olympic Winter Games . Therefore, in 1994, as in 1992, only the non-Olympic team competition was held as a world championship.
