Vadim Sashurin ( Russian Вадим Леонидович Сашурин , Belarusian Вадзім Сашурын / Wadsim Saschuryn * 19th February 1970 in Petrozavodsk , Karelian ASSR , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Belarusian biathlete .

Vadim Saschurin, a sports soldier from Minsk , started biathlon in 1979. Saschurin made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in 1989 and played the sport at world class level for 16 years. He played his first individual in Borovets , where he was 45th as in the following sprint. It was not until 1993 that he was seventh in Pokljuka and was able to finish in the top 10 for the first time in a sprint. He celebrated his first of two World Cup victories in 1996 in a sprint race in Östersund . He was among the top three in individual races 12 times. Saschurin finished the overall World Cup in good places several times. The best place in the overall World Cup was a seventh place in the 1999/00 season. He was eighth in 1998/99, eleventh in 1992/93 and 2000/01, fourteenth in 1995/96 and fifteenth in 2001/02.

Between 1994 and 2002, Sashurin took part in three Olympic Games. In 1994 in Lillehammer he was 28th in the singles, in 1998 in Nagano his best placements were a 13th place in the singles and fourth place with the relay. Sachurin had particularly good results in Salt Lake City in 2002 , although he did not win a medal. He finished eighth in the relay, ninth in the individual, tenth in the pursuit and twelfth in the sprint.

Between 1993 and 2001, Saschurin took part in all world championships. He won gold three times, silver twice and bronze four times. In 1995 he won his first bronze medal with the relay in Antholz . A year later in Ruhpolding came more bronze medals in the individual and with the relay, as well as the first gold in the team competition (with Oleg Ryschenkow , Alexander Popow and Petr Iwaschko ). The team title was defended by the same team in 1997 in Osrblie . In 1999 he won his third gold medal in Kontiolahti with the relay to which Oleksij Ajdarow , Ryschenkow and Iwaschko belonged. At the Holmenkollen in Oslo bronze was added in the individual in the same year. 2001 in Pokljuka he won again silver in the individual and with the relay. In 1998, Sachurin also started at the World Championships in summer biathlon in Osrblie and came eleventh in both sprint and pursuit.
