Hildegunn Fossen-Mikkelsplass (also Hildegunn Fossen and Hildegunn Mikkelsplass ; born April 16, 1969 in Sigdal ) is a former Norwegian biathlete .

Hildegunn Fossen was a student during her active time and lives in Nesbyen . The athlete from Simostranda Idrettslag was one of the most successful Norwegian biathletes in the 1990s. Already at the Biathlon World Championships in Lahti in 1991 , she won the bronze medal in the team competition together with Synnøve Thoresen , Signe Trosten and Unni Kristiansen . At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , Fossen ran with Trosten and Elin Kristiansen in seventh place in the Norwegian relay. At the start of the 1992/93 season , Fossen was eighth in a single in Pokljuka for the first time and was among the top ten. Further top ten placements followed in the season. At the Biathlon World Championships in Borovets in 1993 , she came in ninth place with the relay. At the beginning of the following season , the Norwegian ran into second place in the sprint in Bad Gastein . The results at the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer were mixed . When she came in 21st place in the individual, she was only 47th in the sprint. In the relay, she missed a medal together with Ann-Elen Skjelbreid , Annette Sikveland and Kristiansen in fourth place. A medal she won in the same year at the Biathlon World Championships 1994 of Canmore at the competitions that were not played at the Olympic Games, together with Skjelbreid, Sikveland and Åse Idland the silver medal behind the White Russians in the team competition. In the World Cup she finished ninth, at the same time her best result in this ranking.

Again at the beginning of the 1994/95 season and again in Bad Gastein, Fossen achieved another best World Cup result when she won the sprint race. It should be the only victory in a World Cup race. The 1995 biathlon world championships in Antholz were again successful. The Norwegian was 25th in the individual and 13th in the sprint and won the relay bronze medal with Skjelbreid, Sikveland and Gunn Margit Andreassen . The Biathlon World Championships 1996 in Ruhpolding brought further good results but no medal, 18th in the individual, sixth in the sprint and fourth in the relay. In 1997 the 29th place in the sprint and 30th in the pursuit were added. The last World Cup for Fossen, which was now called Mikkelsplass, was the 1998 World Cup in Hochfilzen , where the Norwegian won silver again in the team competition together with Skjelbreid, Sikveland and Liv Grete Skjelbreid . After the season she ended her successful career.

Fossen married the former cross-country skier Eilif Kristen Mikkelsplass in 1995 and thus became sister-in-law of cross-country skier Pål Gunnar Mikkelsplass and his wife Marit Mikkelsplass-Wold .
