Elin Synnøve Kristiansen (born July 9, 1968 in Elverum , Hedmark ) is a former Norwegian biathlete and seven-time medalist at biathlon world championships .

Elin Kristiansen lives in Slettås and competed for Vestre Trysil Idrettslag in Trysil . In contrast to many other biathletes of her time, she started as a junior in biathlon in 1982 and won the Norwegian junior championships in 1987 and 1988. In 1988 in Tingvoll / Dombås , she also won her first of six Norwegian championship titles among the active. In addition to the singles title she finished second in the sprint and the relay from Hedmark to the next Siv Bråten Lunde still Unni Kristiansen belonged. As early as 1987 she took part in the biathlon world championships and reached a respectable fifteenth place in the sprint. The following year she won two silver medals. Behind Anne Elvebakk she crossed the finish line individually and together with her, Elvebakk and Mona Bollerud only the USSR relay was faster. Also in 1989 she won a silver medal, this time with the team consisting of Thoresen , Kristiansen, Elvebakk and Bollerud. Further results were fifth place with the relay, 13th in the sprint and 23rd in the individual. The 1990 World Championships brought her top results in all disciplines, she started with fifth place in the individual, won bronze in the sprint and again silver with the relay ( Nykkelmo , Elvebakk, Kristiansen). In 1991 she came in seventh and eleventh in singles and sprints. With the relay, consisting of Grete Nykkelmo, Anne Elvebakk and herself, she won her fifth silver medal at world championships.

Kristiansen was nominated for the Norwegian team at the women's biathlon premiere at the Albertville Olympics. As in the previous World Championships, she achieved top results in all competitions, but without celebrating the great success. Fifteenth in the sprint, ninth in the individual and seventh in the relay, in which Signe Trosten , Hildegunn Fossen and Kristiansen were used as the final runners, were her results. At the 1994 Olympics in her home country, she was part of the team again. But in Lillehammer , too , she was denied a medal win. In the individual she was weaker than usual with 31st place, but was in good shape with tenth place in the sprint. The relay with Ann-Elen Skjelbreid, Annette Sikveland, Hildegunn Mikkelsplass and Elin Kristiansen finished fourth after two penalties in that memorable race in which Simone Greiner-Petter-Memm had to run a total of six penalty laps on the third section.

Kristiansen was last used at world championships in 1995 and she became world champion with the team in the last year of her career. In the line-up of Kristiansen, Annette Sikveland , Gunn Margit Andreassen and Ann-Elen Skjelbreid, the Norwegians beat Germany and France.

Kristiansen had her most successful season in the World Cup in 1987/1988 when she was second overall behind Anne Elvebakk. In her career she won three individual races, the first victory was the sprint in Antholz in 1988. In the same season she also won the individual at Holmenkollen in Oslo . She achieved further victories in Novosibirsk in 1992 and in Pokljuka in 1993 . Five second and four third places as well as about thirty top ten placements are also part of their track record. In addition to these international successes, she also achieved numerous top placings nationally in the course of her career and in 1990 secured a second championship in individual competition alongside three team titles (1990, 1991, 1995) and a relay title (1995). In total, she was on the podium thirteen times at state championships. Kristiansen started in recreational races after her active days and won the Munksjørennet in Tørberget in March 2010.
