Dombås is a small town with 1,185 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012) in the Norwegian inland . 659 moh. situated high up, it is a major transport hub. To the south the path leads over the E6 through the fertile Gudbrandsdalen towards Oslo , to the north the E6 climbs over the Dovrefjell to Trondheim and to the west the E136 branches off to follow the further course of the Gudbrandsdal along the river Lågen , and then into Romsdalen to descend to Åndalsnes .
During the campaign in Norway in 1940 the first paratroopers landed between Dombås and Dovre. These were beaten in an initial success by the regiment of Garden og Møre. This defeat was the first German setback on Norwegian territory.
Dombås is the starting point of the Raumabanen , which ends in Åndalsnes . Here you can change to the Dovrebahn . Dombås is connected to the Norwegian long-distance bus network with two lines (Bergen – Trondheim and Oslo – Trondheim).
In addition to a few hotels and souvenir shops, a small church forms the center of the village, which was built in 1939 with slate from the Dovre region.
