Leif Nordgren (born May 18, 1989 ) is an American biathlete .

Career

Leif Nordgren made his international debut at the 2007 Junior World Championships in Martell . At the competitions in Italy, the American finished 54th in the individual, 55th in the sprint, 54th in the pursuit and with Wynn Roberts and Justin Tyner in 12th place in the relay race. This was followed by participation in the Junior World Championships 2008 in Ruhpolding with the results tenth place in the individual, sixth place in the sprint, winning the bronze medal in the pursuit race and ninth place with Russell Currier , Wynn Roberts and Mark Johnson in the relay competition. The North American Championships in Summer Biathlon 2008 in Canmore brought wins in individual and pursuit competitions on roller skis, as well as a bronze medal in the sprint. This was followed by the Junior European Championships of the year in Nové Město na Moravě with 19th place in the individual, 32nd in the sprint and 39th in the pursuit. In Canmore, Nordgren's third participation in a Junior World Championship followed, in which he reached 23rd in sprint and 29th in pursuit and individual. In 2010 he took part again in Torsby in a Junior World Championship and ran into eleventh place in the individual, six in the sprint and five in the pursuit. The last competition among the juniors was the 2010 European Championships in Otepää with 17th place in the individual, sixth in the sprint and 13th in the pursuit. For the relay race, he moved up to the men.

In the men's performance area, Nordgren made his debut in 2008 in Obertilliach as part of the IBU Cup and achieved 43rd place in his first sprint. In 2010 he achieved his best result so far in this racing series with 29th place in a single in Nové Město na Moravě. In 2008 the American also made his debut in the biathlon world cup . He contested his first races in Hochfilzen and was 79th in the individual and 109th in the sprint. Nordgren was used for the first time at a major event at the 2010 European Championships in Otepää. With Zach Hall , Wynn Roberts and Casey Simons he reached twelfth place in the relay race. At the start of the 2010/11 World Cup in Östersund , Nordgren showed over 20 km with a perfect shooting performance - next to Roland Gerbacea as the only athlete without shooting errors - his best World Cup race to date and was rewarded with the first points in this racing series after finishing 35th. The first participation in the world championships followed . In Khanty-Mansiysk , Nordgren was 21st of the individual, 26th of the sprint, 38th of the pursuit, 17th of the mass start race and was sixth with the US relay. It was his best results in breadth and top for a long time, which he could not achieve again either in the World Cup or at the World Championships in 2012 in Ruhpolding and in 2013 in Nové Město na Moravě - apart from a 22nd place in the individual in Nové Město na Moravě . For a mass start race, he could not qualify again after the world championships. Good, if not outstanding, results brought the European Championships 2012 in Osrblie , where he was 45th in the sprint and 21st in the pursuit and achieved a top 20 result with 16th place in the individual. For career highlight were the 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi , where the Americans 83. the function SINGLE, 45 of the sprint, 53. pursuit and on the side of Lowell Bailey , Russell Currier and Sean Doherty 16 as a cage rotor with the Season became. It was more successful the following summer when he won the bronze medal at the North American Championships in Summer Biathlon 2014 in Jericho after finishing eighth in the sprint in the pursuit behind Lowell Bailey and Russell Currier.

For the 2014/15 season , Nordgren was called up like Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke in the US men's national team in biathlon. However, like the winters before, the season was initially not overly successful. In his first eight races of the season Nordgren only achieved a high place in the points. Only in Nové Město na Moravě he was able to record a success again, when he achieved a personal best place in the World Cup with rank 16 in the sprint and also achieved his third-best career result in the pursuit race with rank 20. Seventh place on the side of Susan Dunklee , Hannah Dreissigacker and Sean Doherty in the mixed season was one of the best season results in North Gren. A week earlier he was able to show a good performance in the pursuit race at the Open European Championships 2015 in Otepää after a 51st place in the sprint race and improved by 32 places and finished 19th.
