Russell Currier (born June 18, 1987 in Caribou ) is a retired American biathlete .

Russell Currier lives in Stockholm and trains in Fort Kent . He works in a restaurant, starts for the Maine Winter Sports Center and the Northern Skiers Ski Club and is trained by Gary Colliander. Currier achieved some success in the youth and junior sector. In 2004 he took part in his first Junior World Championships in Haute-Maurienne . The best result was rank 21 in the pursuit. In 2005 in Kontiolahti , 2006 in Presque Isle and 2007 in Martell , he could not improve his results, in 2008 in Ruhpolding he achieved better results as 15th in individual and sprint and 20th in the pursuit. The US-American achieved 15th place in an individual in 2007 in Cesana San Sicario in his first appearance in the Junior European Cup. In the following sprint, he finished third on an international podium for the first time. In 2006 he competed in the cross-country junior championships of the USA in Houghton and won the title over 15 kilometers.

In addition to his junior years, he competed in adult races several times. So far he has been five times national champion in Maine . At the North American Championships in Valcartier in 2006 , he was second in the sprint and third in the pursuit. The highlight of Currier's career so far has been participation in the 2008 Biathlon World Championships in Östersund . There he was 79th in the singles and together with Tracy Barnes , Laura Spector and Jeremy Teela 16th in the mixed relay. He competed three times at the 2008 European Biathlon Championships in Nové Město na Moravě . The best result was a 17th place in the individual.

At the 2009 Biathlon World Championships in Pyeongchang , he was 57th in the sprint over 10 km and 56th in the pursuit over 12.5 km and thus last. With the relay he reached the 21st place over 4 × 7.5 km together with Lowell Bailey , Tim Burke and Jeremy Teela . With the mixed relay he reached 18th place. In the 2009/10 season, Currier achieved primarily successes in North America and missed the 2010 Winter Olympics against Wynn Roberts . In the overall standings of the Biathlon-NorAm-Cup 2009/10 he finished second behind Zach Hall , he won two of the races and was second just as often. At the North American Championships in Biathlon 2010 in Fort Kent , Currier missed a medal in sixth place in the sprint and did not go to the pursuit. In the final mass start race, he took gold. It was also the US championships . In the 2011/12 World Cup in Nove Mesto, Russell Currier was not only able to win World Cup points for the first time, but also achieved his first place in the top ten with sixth place in the sprint. He improved by 50 ranks with his best placement. In the pursuit race he fell back almost 30 places and was 35. He repeated the sixth place in Kontiolahti in a sprint race.
