Alexia Runggaldier (born November 27, 1991 in Brixen , South Tyrol ) is a former Italian biathlete . Her greatest achievement is winning the bronze medal in singles at the 2017 World Championships .
Personal
Alexia Runggaldier lives in St. Christina in Val Gardena and has been a member of the Italian national squad since 2008 and the women's B squad since 2011. She started for the police sports club GS Fiamme Oro di Moena . It is not related to the well-known winter sports enthusiasts Mattia , Elena and Peter Runggaldier .
Career
Runggaldier made her international debut at the 2008 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding , where she finished eleventh in the individual, was 33rd in the sprint, 28th in the pursuit and won the bronze medal in the relay race with Dorothea Wierer and Monika Messner. This was followed by the 2008 European Junior Biathlon Championships in Nové Město na Moravě , where the Italian was 54th in the individual, 47th in the sprint and fifth in the relay. In the further course of the year she started in the roller ski junior races of the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2008 in Haute-Maurienne and reached places 25 in the sprint and 20 in the individual. In 2009 she only started at the Junior World Championships and was 36th of the individual, 12th of the sprint, 13th of the pursuit in Canmore and won the bronze medal in the relay race again with Wierer and Nicole Gontier . Her third Junior World Championship was Runggaldier 2010 in Torsby , where she finished sixth in the individual and sprint, 12th in the pursuit and ninth with the relay. Their fourth and last Junior World Championships took place in 2011 held in Nove Mesto. Runggaldier reached the ranks 43 in the individual, six in the sprint and eight in the pursuit and won the silver medal with Gontier and Wierer in the relay race. The last major event among the juniors was the 2011 European Biathlon Championships in Ridnaun , Runggaldier was fifth in the individual and sprint and fourth in the relay three times, just barely winning medals, in the pursuit she came in eleventh place.
Runggaldier contested her first races in the IBU Cup in Martell in 2010 and immediately won points in her first sprint as 32nd. The following season she improved her best result in Annecy in the sprint to 25th place. The first major event for women was the 2011 European Summer Biathlon Championships in Martell. The Italian took 12th place in the sprint and reached sixth place in the mixed relay with Karin Oberhofer , Dominik Windisch and Rudy Zini . At the second stop of the 2011/12 World Cup in Hochfilzen , Runggaldier made his debut in a sprint race in the Biathlon World Cup , but as 61 missed the pursuit race by just one position. The following year, Alexia Runggaldier took 33rd place in the sprint in the same place and was able to win her first World Cup points.
Her breakthrough in the World Cup came in the 2016/17 season with the first top ten placements and winning the bronze medal in individual at the Biathlon World Championships in Hochfilzen .
After the 2019/20 season , in which she was only used in the IBU Cup , Runggaldier ended her career.
