The 2012 Biathlon Junior World Championships (officially: IBU Youth / Junior World Championships Biathlon 2012Finnish winter sports resort of Kontiolahti . Lahti was originally chosen as the venue in June 2009 , but a change was made. Kontiolahti was previously (co-) hosted the world championships in 1990 and 1999 , the European Championships in 1994 and 2002 and the Junior World Championships in 1996 and 2005. In addition, the town on the countryside of North Karelia regular station in the Biathlon World Cup - last few days before the start of the Event in February 2012.
458 athletes (as of January 4, 2012) from 37 countries took part in the competitions, more than ever before at the Junior World Championships. The largest teams were made up of Russia , Belarus , Finland (20), Estonia and Germany (16); the smallest teams came from Turkey and the Netherlands .
