David Komatz (born December 10, 1991 in Aigen im Ennstal ) is an Austrian biathlete .

Life

David Komatz lives in Aigen and starts for the ATV Aigen-Irdning . He was initially a cross-country skier before switching to biathlon. The Austrian competed in his first international races at the 2009 Junior World Championships in Canmore . In the sprint he took 32nd place, improved to 27th place in the pursuit race based on it and was tenth in the relay race alongside Benjamin Riedlsperger, Michael Reiter and Martin Huber as the final runner, whereby he had to run two penalties like Reiter. It took two years until Komatz took part again in the Junior World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě . In the individual he was 43rd in the Czech Republic, 54th in the sprint and improved by 30 places to 24th in the pursuit. In the relay race he was sixth with Lorenz Wäger , Christian Kitzbichler and Bernhard Leitinger . In Ridnaun , he did not start very much in the junior races of the European Championships in 2011 and finished tenth in the sprint, 19th in the pursuit race and did not finish his individual. At the European Championships a year later in Osrblie , Slovakia , Komatz was initially used in the junior races. He finished seventh in the sprint and sixth in the pursuit. When he was seventh in the sprint with two mistakes, he was only the third-best Austrian, with only one improvement by one place and three mistakes in the pursuit of the best Austrian. For the relay race, thanks to his good performance, he was appointed to the men's national team alongside Bernhard Leitinger, Michael Reiter and Julian Eberhard , and thus Lorenz Wäger and Christian Kitzbichler were preferred. As fourth place behind Germany, Norway and Russia, the relay missed Austria by one place and a medal by just over 40 seconds. After another participation in the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2012 in Kontiolahti with a fifth place in the individual as the best result, the debut in the IBU Cup for men followed. In his first race, an individual in Altenberg , he won 19th points. The best result in the second highest racing series so far was a third place in a sprint in Ruhpolding in 2014 . The highlight of the next season was the 2013 European Championships in Bansko . Komatz finished eighth in the individual, 19th in the sprint and 25th in the pursuit. In the 2013/14 season , the Austrian made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof , missing the points as 59th in the sprint and 56th in the pursuit. At the 2014 European Championships , Komatz won the relay race title alongside Lorenz Wäger, Michael Reiter and Peter Brunner . In addition, he won the bronze medal in the sprint behind Lars Helge Birkeland and Maxim Zwetkow at the same time as Andrejs Rastorgujevs , was eighth in the pursuit and 58th in the individual. The season finale at Holmenkollen from Oslo won Komatz than 16 of the sprint first World Cup points, the mass start race, he missed twelfth barely a first top ten result.
