Julia Ransom (born February 4, 1993 in Kelowna ) is a former Canadian biathlete .

Career

Julia Ransom starts for Canmore Nordic . She made her international debut as part of the junior races of the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2009 in Oberhof . There she finished 24th in the sprint and 19th in the pursuit in the cross-country competition and was 35th in the sprint on rollerskiing and in the pursuer she was eliminated as a lapped runner. This was followed by the 2010 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Torsby , where she just missed the top ten as eleventh of the individual, was 16th in the sprint and 23rd in the pursuit race. With the Canadian season he was fourth at the side of Rose-Marie Côté and Audrey Vaillancourt and thus just missed a medal. A year later she reached in Nové Město na Moravě the ranks 36 in the individual, 51 in the sprint, 47 in the pursuit and with Rose-Marie Côté and Sarah Beaudry eight in the relay race. In 2012 , Ransom took part in a Junior World Championship in Kontiolahti for the third time and achieved single-digit placings in all four races. In the individual she was eighth, fifth in the sprint and won the silver medal in the pursuit race behind Grete Gaim . In the season she achieved the same placement in the same line-up as the year before.

In the 2012/13 season Ransom made his debut in Canmore with the women in the Biathlon NorAm Cup . In her first sprint she only had to admit defeat to Claude Godbout , the overall winner of the racing series from the previous year , and won the pursuit race based on it. Towards the end of 2012, she also competed in her first cross-country skiing NorAm Cup . The best result in the racing series so far is a fourth place in the 10-kilometer freestyle in Vernon .

At the end of the 2017/18 season , Julia Ransom announced her retirement from competitive sports in order to concentrate on her medical studies. She contested her last race on March 18, 2018 at Holmenkollen in Norway .
