The biathlon NorAm Cup 2012/13 will be just as it did previously as an indirect base for the seasons Biathlon World Cup hosts.
The competitions of the NorAm-Cup are organized depending on the venue by the national associations of Canada and the USA as well as by the local organizing clubs. In addition, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) acts as a partner, making the competitions official competitions of the world association. For the most part, the racing series is only used by Canadian and US biathletes. Unlike in the World Cup and the IBU Cup , the starting fields are not very large, especially for women. In many cases, individual athletes only run individual races, partly because athletes have recommended themselves for races in Europe and then start there, or because not all top athletes were always sent to the individual competitions. The US squad is primarily made up of athletes from the United States Army Reserve and the United States National Guard , while Canadian athletes are primarily drawn from the country's national squad. In the races in the USA mostly US athletes compete, in the races in Canadians participants from Canada predominate. Starting fields of a similar size are only sent out for races in the nearer border region. Under the Nor-Am-Cup races are organized on a regional level in Canada, in the USA mostly within or between the military units, in Canada also as racing series. Apart from the top athletes, who are often part of the country's national squad, the US athletes can rarely prevail in the North American top against the representatives of Canada. While the Canadians' roster is only partially changed over a long period of time, fluctuation in the US roster is quite high.
