Matt Neumann lives in Prince George and starts for Biathlon BC High Performance , where he is trained by Ilmar Heinicke. In 2009 he was promoted to the Canadian national team. He started out as a cross-country skier at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club in Prince George when he was seven . At the age of ten he switched to biathlon under the influence of local biathlon coaches Jeremy Campbell and Fiona Coy. They both trained him for the next seven years. In 2008 he won his first singles title at the Canadian Junior Championships in Callaghan Valley . In 2009 he won the individual and sprint in Valcartier . In 2009 he started in Canmore for the first time at the Junior World Championships. At the home World Cup, Neumann was 57th in the individual, 54th in the sprint, 57th in the pursuit and 15th in the relay of Canada. He also took part in the 2009 North American Junior Championships in Valcartier, where he won the silver medal in mixed with his brother Aaron and Megan Tandy , in individual he was third behind Wynn Roberts and Leif Nordgren , in the sprint behind Nordgren and Roberts. Later in the year he also took part in the junior competitions of the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2009 in Oberhof and was there in the cross-country competitions 20th in the sprint and 13th in the pursuit, on roller skis 30th in the sprint, 33rd in the pursuit and sixth in season. In 2010, the Canadian started a second time at the Junior World Championships in Torsby , where he was 73rd in the individual, 46th in the sprint and pursuit and 12th in the relay race. At the Canadian Youth Championships another title win in the pursuit was added, before he was runner- up in the sprint behind Beau Thompson . With his brother Aaron and Emma Lunder , he also won the mixed relay competition as a representative of British Columbia .
