Elizabeth "Betsy" Mawdsley (born April 17, 1988 in Fort Smith ) is a Canadian biathlete .

Mawdsley has two sisters and one brother. She tried out various sports at an early age: figure skating , athletics , soccer , volleyball , swimming and skiing . She started biathlon at the age of 13. After school she trained and started for the West Coast Nordics in North Vancouver for a year . In 2007 she took part in the Canadian Winter Games, which earned her a scholarship for the Augustana Vikings Biathlon Team in Camrose . Mawdsley still lives in Camrose, where she studied at Augustana University Collegeand completed her sports teacher degree with a Bachelor of Science . In the summer months she works as an assistant trainer at Foothills Nordic Biathlon , in autumn for the Camrose Ski Club Biathlon . In 2010 it was ranked eleventh in an internal ranking by the Canadian Biathlon Association.

Mawdsley's first major international event was the North American Championships in Summer Biathlon 2008 in Canmore , where she was 14th in the individual. It was also used at the 2009 North American Championships in Valcartier . With Brendan Green and Lindsey Bolivar she reached 14th place in the mixed relay race. It was at the same time the Canadian Championships , in the ranking of which they came in seventh as a representative of the Northwest Territories . In the Biathlon-NorAm-Cup of the 2009/10 season she came in 24th place overall. The 2010/11 season was much more successful . In Canmore, she won the series' first race of the season, a sprint, ahead of Kathryn Stone and Karen Messenger . She finished second behind Messenger in the following pursuit race. A month later, the NorAm-Cup returned to Canmore. Mawdsley reached third place in the sprint behind Cynthia Clark and Messenger in the pursuit race she was second behind Clark.
