Luise Kummer (born June 29, 1993 in Jena ) is a former German biathlete .

Athletic career

Luise Kummer started biathlon after primary school. Because of her interest, she moved from the Goethe Gymnasium in Ilmenau to the Sports Gymnasium in Oberhof , where she successfully completed her Abitur. She has been a member of the D / C squad of the German biathlon team since 2012. After the 2014/15 season , she was accepted into course group Ia and the B-team.

The sport soldier made her international debut at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 in Liberec . There she drew attention with a tenth place in the sprint and 13th place in the individual. She made her European Cup debut in 2014 in Ridnaun -Val Ridanna with a 54th place in the sprint. She achieved her best result in the European Cup in Ruhpolding , where she reached 21st place.

At the 2014 Junior Biathlon World Championships in Presque Isle , she won silver in the pursuit after finishing eighth in the sprint. In the individual and the relay, she won the gold medal. Because of these results, she was used at the World Cup in Oslo . In the sprint she missed the subsequent pursuit with rank 82.

After good performance in the IBU Cup , Kummer was nominated for the 2014/15 World Cup opener in Östersund. Here she achieved her best career result to date with 18th place in the individual without a shooting error. This also exceeded her previous best IBU Cup result. At the relay race in Hochfilzen she achieved her first World Cup victory together with Franziska Hildebrand , Vanessa Hinz and Franziska Preuß . At the World Cup in Antholz , she achieved a 13th place in the sprint thanks to faultless and fast shooting bouts. In the relay race that followed, she won her second World Cup victory together with Franziska Hildebrand, Franziska Preuss and Laura Dahlmeier . In the pursuit of the World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě you managed a twelfth place despite adverse conditions, which you could also meet the standard for the World Championships in Kontiolahti , Finland . On February 19, she was officially nominated for her first World Cup as the fifth woman. There she was sixth as the starting runner of the mixed relay. On March 20, 2015, she achieved her best position in a World Cup race to date in the sprint race at the World Cup finals, finishing eighth. In the following pursuit she was 15th and was able to qualify for a mass start for the first time.

In preparation for the 2015/16 season , she had to undergo an operation on her wisdom teeth . An infection caused an additional loss of training. As a result, she was unable to qualify for the World Cup team and started the winter competition after a short break at the second station of the IBU Cup in Ridnaun .

At the 2016 European Biathlon Championships in Tyumen , Russia , she won the gold medal in the mass start and, together with Matthias Dorfer, the silver medal in the single mixed relay.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, after the first race of the IBU Cup, she decided to take a break from training. She also injured herself while jogging and tore the outer ligament. Since the end of January 2017 she started again in the German Cup and won three competitions, in March 2017 she was again active in the IBU Cup.

After the 2018/19 season, Luise Kummer ended her career as an active biathlete.
