Matthias Dorfer (born March 7, 1993 ) is a German biathlete .

Matthias Dorfer starts for SV Marzoll and works as a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr . He has been a member of the German national team's B squad since the 2014/15 season .

Dorfer contested his first international races as part of the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2012 in Kontiolahti , where he finished fifth in the individual and, after finishing 14th in the sprint in the pursuit, was second behind Johannes Thingnes Bø and was able to win the silver medal. With Niklas Homberg and Maximilian Janke, he also won the bronze medal in the relay race. The following year in Obertilliach , where Dorfer was disqualified 26th in the individual and with the relay, were much weaker . In 2014 , Presque Isle added sixth in the sprint, four in the pursuit and seven in the individual. With Philipp Nawrath , Roman Rees and Alexander Ketzer , he won the world championship title in the relay race.

Dorfer made his debut in the IBU Cup in Obertilliach in December 2013 and immediately won first points as 20th. Until the 2015/16 season , Dorfer slowly and steadily improved and ran in Ridnaun at the side of Luise Kummer behind Anaïs Chevalier and Aristide Bègue for the first time in the single mixed relay as second place in the top ten and at the same time on the podium. In Obertilliach followed a little later with seventh place in the individual, the first top ten placement in an individual race.

At the 2016 European Biathlon Championships in Tyumen , Dorfer was once again able to win the silver medal alongside Luise Kummer in the first-ever single mixed race behind Wiktorija Sliwko and Anton Babikow from Russia. In Martell , with two fourth places in two sprint races, he just missed first podium positions in individual races. Despite mixed performances at the start of the 2016/17 season in the IBU Cup, Dorfer was nominated for the second World Cup station in Pokljuka . In a faultless race he was able to win the first points in 37th and qualify for the pursuit race, where he improved by one place despite three shooting errors. After the failure of Arnd Peiffer , he was surprisingly nominated for the final relay race. At the side of Erik Lesser , Benedikt Doll and Simon Schempp , he was the only German to remain without mistakes and thus kept the German squadron in the race after Lesser's many spares, despite losing strength in the run. In the end, he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup with the relay as third-placed.

At the national level, Dorfer won his first national medal in men with the Bavarian relay alongside Johannes Kühn and Florian Graf in 2013 with the runner-up championship. In 2014 he was again runner-up in the relay race with Matthias Bischl and Graf. In 2015 Dorfer was no longer part of the first, but rather the third season of Bavaria, but still won the bronze medal with the other young runners Korbinian Raschke and Niklas Homberg. A year later , Dorfer won his first individual medal at the German championships with the bronze medal behind Simon Schempp and Daniel Böhm . In the mass start race he only had to admit defeat to Arnd Peiffer. He finished third in the cup standings.
