Julija Mykolajiwna Schurawok ( Ukrainian Юлія Миколаївна Журавок ; also English Yuliia Zhuravok ; born November 10, 1994 in Sumy , Ukraine ) is a Ukrainian biathlete .

Career

Julija Schurawok has been an active biathlete since 2009; she contested her first international race in 2012 at the Youth World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland . In the individual races, eleventh place in the pursuit race remained her best place, with the Ukrainian relay she won the gold medal together with Anastassija Merkuschyna and Yuliya Bryhynets. A year later, at the youth world championships in Obertilliach , she won silver in the individual race and silver in the relay. Shortly thereafter, she played at the 2013 Biathlon European Championships for Juniors in Bansko , where she won bronze in the mixed relay.

In the 2013/14 season she made her debut in the IBU Cup in Ruhpolding . At the 2014 European Championships in Nové Město na Moravě , Czech Republic , she started in the junior division and won the mixed relay race with the Ukrainian team. In the summer she took part in the 2014 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Tyumen , Russia , where she again won the gold medal in the junior mixed relay race.

In the winter of 2014/15 Schurawok made her debut in the Biathlon World Cup in Östersund, Sweden . With a 59th place in the individual race, she clearly missed the points. As a result, she only started in the IBU Cup, at the 2015 European Championships in Otepää , she won bronze in the juniors in the individual race and in the mixed relay. At the subsequent Junior World Championships in Minsk , Schurawok won gold in the individual race and bronze in the pursuit. Also in 2015 she took part in the World Championships in Kontiolahti, she won her first World Cup points with a 28th place in the individual race.

At the 2015 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Cheile Grădiştei, Romania - still in the junior division - Shurawok won gold in the relay race, silver in the sprint and bronze in the pursuit. In the winter of 2015/16 she only competed in races in the second-rate IBU Cup and did not take part in the 2016 European Championships . In the following season she took part in about half of the races of the World Cup, but - with the exception of the individual competitions - never reached the points. In Östersund she narrowly missed her first top 10 placement in the World Cup in eleventh place, and with the women's relay in Antholz in fourth place, she also narrowly missed her first podium finish in the World Cup.

In the summer of 2017 she again won a bronze medal with the mixed relay at the Summer Biathlon World Championships. At the 2018 European Biathlon Championships in Ridnaun , Italy , she narrowly missed a medal as fourth in the individual competition, but together with the Ukrainian team she won the mixed relay race.
