Alexander Alexandrowitsch Starodubez ( Russian Александр Александрович Стародубец ; born March 14, 1993 in Moscow ) is a Russian biathlete currently starting for South Korea .

Alexander Starodubez is a trained psychologist . In 2006 he started biathlon. He made his international debut in the youth races as part of the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2012 in Kontiolahti , where he finished seventh in both the individual and the relay. The European Championships followed in 2013 , where he was 38th in the junior sprint and was unable to finish the race when his compatriots Alexander Loginow and Maxim Zwetkow had a double victory . It was the last international missions for Russia. Due to a lack of prospects, Starodubez then changed nationality like other Russian biathletes and became part of the national team of South Korea, which strengthened itself with experienced, high-performance athletes in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .

Starodubez contested his first international races as a South Korean at the 2016 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Otepää . In the sprint he missed five of the ten targets and reached 46th place, in the pursuit race based on this he was 35 with four errors and 20 targets. On the side of Mun Ji-hee , the former Russian world champion Anna Frolina and Lee In-bok was he finished seventh with the mixed relay. After a first race at the start of the 2016/17 season in the IBU Cup in Beitostølen , where he finished 33rd in the sprint with a mistake, he made his debut in the World Cup in Östersund . With Mun, Frolina and Kim Jong-min , he came in 18th in the mixed relay race, and in individual races a few days later in 93rd place. In the further course of the season, he kept switching between the World Cup and IBU Cup, mostly in the World Cup Relay race was used. In both competitions he could no longer achieve points. Nevertheless, the 2017 World Championships in Hochfilzen were the first major international championships. Starodubez was called up in the singles, where he incurred just as many penalty minutes due to eight shooting errors and in the end was 98th out of 100 athletes in the finish.
