Mun Ji-hee (born August 2, 1988 ) is a South Korean biathlete . She is one of the most successful representatives of this sport in the history of her country and arguably the most prominent South Korean biathlete of the 2000s.

Career

Mun Ji-hee lives in Jeollabuk-do Province and starts for Phisical Education club Chonnam , previously for Jeollanamdo Sports Council . The student has been practicing biathlon since 2000 and is trained by Kim Sang-wook. She has competed in the European Biathlon Cup since 2005 and, with a few exceptions, in the European Cup since the 2006/07 season , the Biathlon World Cup has been her field of activity. Already towards the end of the preseason she made her debut in Pokljuka as the 86th sprint. Mun ran the first full season in the 2007/08 World Cup . In her home town of Pyeongchang , she achieved her best World Cup result to date as the 37th sprint and at the same time one of the best results in South Korean biathlon history. The highlight of the season was participation in the 2008 Biathlon World Championships in Östersund . There she came in the sprint on 73rd place and with Jo In-hee , Lee In-bok and Park Byung-joo in the mixed relay on 19th place. Mun Ji-hee started for the second time at the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang, where she finished 94th in the individual and just missed the pursuit as 65th of the sprint. The 2009 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof went particularly well . In the sprint on roller skis , the South Korean made fourth place and missed a medal just 4.5 seconds behind Natalja Levtschenkowa . It was the best result of South Korean biathletes in an international race. In 2010 she was the first South Korean woman to win her first World Cup points as the 39th of an individual. Mun Ji-hee participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was 63rd place in the sprint. After Kim Ja-youn at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, she was only the second South Korean to compete in biathlon competitions at the Olympic Games.
