Steffen Bartscher (born July 15, 1992 in Winterberg ) is a German biathlete .

Career

Steffen Bartscher comes from a sporty family from Olsberg-Bruchhausen. Bartscher stood on alpine skis for the first time when he was 3 years old. Two years later he started cross-country skiing and finally got into biathlon at the age of six . He quickly became successful nationally and is now the four-time overall winner of the German Student Cup and has taken first place in the overall ranking of the German Cup three times in a row.

Bartscher has been internationally active since 2009. At the European Olympic Winter Youth Festival 2009 in Silesia he won the gold medal in the mixed relay with Christina Maierhofer , Jennifer Horn and Johannes Kühn and the silver medal in the sprint. With the participation in the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2011 in Nové Město na Moravě he won the relay gold, silver in individual, reached fourth place in the pursuit and fifth place in the sprint.

Bartscher has been competing in the IBU Cup for men since the 2013/14 season . His first race, an individual, he finished 45th in Osrblie, still outside of the points. In Ruhpolding he came in the points for the first time as 35th in the pursuit race in the further course of the season. At the season finale in Martell he was able to achieve good results as 12th in the sprint and 16th in the pursuit. In the last race of the season, a mixed relay race, he won his first race in the IBU Cup alongside Karolin Horchler , Maren Hammerschmidt and Matthias Bischl .

School and job

Steffen Bartscher first attended the sports high school in Winterberg, in summer 2012 he graduated from the sports high school in Oberhof and has been employed as a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr in Oberhof since September 2012 .
