Jelena Wladimirowna Badanina ( Russian Елена Владимировна Баданина ; born May 21, 1992 in Nikolsk , Vologda Oblast , Russia ) is a Russian biathlete .

Jelena Badanina starts for the Tyumen region. She comes from a sports-loving family - her mother ran polyathlon - and was already nine years old on skis. At first she was also active in polyathlon, but came to biathlon through long-standing friendship with the Achatov family, who lived with their parents in Nikolsk during the summer. Badanina attended secondary school № 1 in Nikolsk. She then moved to Labytnangi on Спортивная школа олимпийского резерва имени Татьяны Ахатовой в Лабытнанги ( Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve Tatjana Achatowa ) and trained there with Chamit Achatow , the father of Albina Achatowa . She contested her first international competitions at the Arctic Winter Games in Canada, where she impressed as a four-time winner in biathlon. At the 2010 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Torsby , Badanina prevailed in the youth class in both the sprint and the pursuit and came second in both the individual and the relay. Although she only won with the relay, she was similarly successful the following year in Nové Město , again with silver in the individual and this time bronze in sprint and pursuit.
