Grzegorz Bodziana (born June 3, 1981 in Duszniki-Zdrój ) is a former Polish biathlete who competed for the KS AZS-AWF Katowice .

Career

Grzegorz Bodziana lived and trains in Duszniki Zdró, he has been active in biathlon since 1998. Since 2000, the athlete trained by Adam Kolodziejczyk has been part of the national team of Poland. Bodziana made his international debut as part of the Junior European Championships in 2000 in Kościelisko , where he was 15th in the individual and just missed a medal with the relay as fourth. This was followed by the Junior World Championships in Hochfilzen with 34th place in sprint and pursuit and 12th place in the relay competition. The 2001 Junior World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk brought better results with places 25 in the individual and eight in the relay, but also a worse result with 64th place in the sprint. The Pole made his debut in the 2002/03 season in the European Biathlon Cup and thus in the performance area . He won his first points as 19th in an individual in Obertilliach . At the end of the season , Bodziana was able to start in the biathlon world cup for the first time . His first race was a sprint in Lahti , where he finished 64th. He achieved his first top ten result with the 2004 season in Ruhpolding . In individual races, however, he could never reach the points, as 32nd at the individual at the Biathlon World Championships 2004 in Oberhof , he came closest to the points and missed them by two places. In the sprint he reached 75th place at the World Cup, with Michał Piecha , Wiesław Ziemianin and Tomasz Sikora he was also eleventh in the relay race. The European Championships in Minsk brought mixed results with ranks 40 in the individual, 32 in the sprint and 30 in the pursuit, but in the relay competition Bodziana and his colleagues from the World Cup relay won the bronze medal behind the teams from Germany and Norway and thus achieved his largest international success.

The 2005 Biathlon World Championships in Hochfilzen were mediocre with places 50 in the sprint, 54 in the pursuit and eight in the relay. The following year, the Pole was able to take part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin as a career highlight. In the competitions in Cesana San Sicario Bodziana reached the ranks 72 in the individual and 67 in the sprint, which he missed the pursuit and the mass start. He was also not used in the relay race. At the World Championships in 2006 in Pokljuka and 2007 in Antholz , he was only used in the mixed relay and the relay and was 15th and 13th and ended his career in 2007. After he was third in the sprint in 2005 and achieved this result the following year in the pursuit and in the individual, he won the national relay title in 2006 with Krzysztof Uklejewicz , Łukasz Witek and Michał Piecha representing the AZS AWF Katowice . In 2007 he was able to win the individual title, as well as bronze again in sprint and pursuit.
