The Klub Sportowy AZS-AWF w Katowicach ( KS AZS-AWF Katowice for short ) is a Polish sports club from Katowice . The club was founded on March 8, 1971 as the university sports club of the Akademia Wychowania Fizycznego im. Jerzego Kukuczki w Katowicach founded in Katowice.

Departments

fencing

In 1991 Leszek Bandach won the Polish championship title in foil fencing as a member of the club. In 1993 and 2000 Magdalena Jeziorowska from the club was also successful on a national level. From 2004 to 2011 Adam Skrodzki and Marcin Koniusz also secured five other saber fencing titles .

Cross-country skiing

Since 1989, cross-country skiing has been part of the association as a new department. The club's most successful cross-country skier is Justyna Kowalczyk , who became Olympic champion in 2010 and 2014 and also celebrated three world championship titles.

biathlon

In addition to cross-country skiing, the club also successfully operates biathlon . At the Biathlon World Championships 2013 in Nové Město na Moravě , Krystyna Pałka , who competes for the club, won the silver medal in the pursuit. In 2014 she secured the world title in summer biathlon .

Ski jumping

In ski jumping, especially Krystian Długopolski , Tomasz Pochwała , Tomisław Tajner , and Maciej Maciusiak were successful for the club . In 2004 the quartet secured the Polish championship title . The Polish champion from 2001 and later ski jumping coach Łukasz Kruczek was also a member of the club.

Nordic combination

The combiners Adam Cieślar , Szczepan Kupczak and Paweł Słowiok are members of the association.

Handball

The women's handball team played in the first Polish division in the 2003/04 season, but was relegated in the 2004/05 season and has since played in the second division.
