Paweł Słowiok (born March 31, 1992 in Cieszyn ) is a former Polish Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Słowiok made his international debut in December 2007 at two FIS competitions in Seefeld in Tyrol . Four weeks later, the Pole started the Nordic Combined B World Cup for the first time . In the first two competitions in Chaux-Neuve , he remained without point wins. At the following Junior World Championships in 2008 in Zakopane , he finished 46th in the Gundersen singles before he was eleventh with the team. In the end, he came in 34th place in the sprint. In the winter of 2008/09 Słowiok started in the Alpine Cup . In January he was given another starting place in the B World Cup, which was now called the Continental Cup. In Eisenerz he was again unsuccessful.

Two weeks later he was second from Schonach in the Black Forest for the first time on an Alpine Cup podium. Thereupon he traveled seven days later to the Continental Cup in Kranj and won there for the first time as the 21st Continental Cup points. In Štrbské Pleso he stayed at the Junior World Championships in 2009 again without a medal. At the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2009 , at which the combined competitions took place in Szczyrk , he won the silver medal in the sprint and with the team. In between, he also secured the gold medal in the Gundersen singles. On March 15, 2009, at the end of the 2008/09 winter season in Vikersund, he made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup . However, as the 56th he failed in the qualification.

In the summer of 2009, Słowiok started in the Nordic Combined Grand Prix . He reached the points in Hinterzarten , Oberstdorf and Val di Fiemme . After only three starts, he broke off the Grand Prix and finished his first Grand Prix season in 33rd place overall. The rest of the summer he stayed in the Alpencup, where he again achieved a podium in the Oberstdorf sprint.

In the winter of 2009/10, Słowiok started with a permanent place in the World Cup, but had to switch back to the Alpine Cup after he was unsuccessful in Ramsau am Dachstein and Oberhof. In the next two years, Słowiok regularly switched to the Continental Cup or competed in individual World Cups, in which, however, he still did not achieve any points. At the Continental Cup in Szczyrk in February 2011, he was placed in the top ten for the first time in the Continental Cup.

At the following Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , he finished 48th on the normal hill on the Gundersen and 42nd on the large hill.

For the 2012/13 season, Słowiok moved permanently from the Alpine Cup to the Continental Cup after rising form. Already in the first competitions of the season he landed within the points and could continue to improve steadily. At the Winter Universiade 2013 in Predazzo , after finishing 17th in the individual, he won the bronze medal in the mass start and shortly afterwards gold with the team.

Then Słowiok got a starting place in the World Cup. In Tchaikovsky he won his first nine World Cup points as 22nd. However, it remained his only in the 2013/14 season, which he finished 72nd in the overall World Cup standings. As a result, he was unsuccessful at his starts in the World Cup and missed the points, sometimes even significantly. Only at his starts in the Continental Cup did he get a point in almost all races.

Słowiok ended his career at the end of the 2018/19 season.
