Markus Windisch (born May 12, 1984 in Bruneck ) is an Italian biathlete .

Markus Windisch began biathlon in 1996, his brother Dominik Windisch is also an active biathlete. The Oberrasen sports soldier from CS Esercito is trained by Paolo Riva. Since 2001 he has been part of the Italian national team. That year he made his debut in the European Cup and finished 28th in the sprint. The following year he took part in the same position in the Junior World Championships. Here he was eleventh in the individual, fifth in the sprint, eighth in the pursuit and seventh in the relay. In the 2002/03 season he celebrated his first major successes in the European Cup. In Forni Avoltri he won the sprint and then came fourth in the pursuit. Also at the Junior World Championships of the season in Kościelisko went again with good results. In the individual he was 14th, in the sprint eleventh and in the pursuit he just missed a medal in fourth. He then started at the European Championships in Forni Avoltri, where he was ninth in the individual and sprint.

Also in the next season he started in the European Cup and finished well in Ridnaun, fourth in the sprint and third in the pursuit. The Junior World Championships of the year in Haute-Maurienne did not go particularly well for Windisch. The European Championships in Minsk went better , where he was sixth in the individual. In the World Cup, the South Tyrolean made his debut in a relay race in Beitostølen (12th). The first very good placement in a biathlon World Cup race was 13th in a 2007 pursuit in Pokljuka for some time . In 2007, Windisch also took part in a major biathlon event for the first time. At the Biathlon World Championships in 2007 in his Italian homeland in Antholz , he achieved mediocre placements in the individual (57th) and sprint (47th). A small sensation was the achievement of an excellent fourth place with the Italian relay. At the start of the 2008/09 season , Windisch was able to finish seventh in a sprint race in Östersund, making it one of the top ten for the first time.

Markus Windisch took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. His best result was 31st place in the individual. At the 2011 Home World Cup in Antholz in South Tyrol, Markus Windisch, together with Lukas Hofer , René-Laurent Vuillermoz and Christian De Lorenzi, took second place in the relay and thus made it to the podium for the first time with an Italian men's relay.
