Lanny Barnes (born April 26, 1982 in Durango ) is a former American biathlete and cross-country skier .

Lanny Barnes has been biathlon since 1998 and has been a member of the US national team since 2004. She starts for UMFK Bengals in Fort Kent . Barnes made his international debut in 2001 in Ridanna in the European Cup. In Haute-Maurienne , she started at the Junior European Championships and was eighth in the pursuit and fifth in the relay. At the subsequent Junior World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk , the best placement was an eighth place with the relay. In 2002 Barnes made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup . In Antholz she was 77th in the individual. At the Junior World Championships of the year in Ridnaun, Barnes won bronze in the individual and with the relay, to which her twin sister Tracy Barnes belonged, silver behind the German relay with Jenny Adler and Ute Niziak .

In the following seasons, she switched repeatedly between the World and European Cup. In 2005 Barnes started in Hochfilzen for the first time at the biathlon world championships , but without significant placements. At the 2006 Winter Olympics , she started in singles (64th) and with the relay (15th). Her first result in the points reached Barnes 2006 in Östersund . With her 15th place in the individual, she won 16 points, which was enough at the end of the season to a 65th place in the overall World Cup. It was not until the 2009 Biathlon World Championships in Pyeongchang , where she took part in a World Cup for the fifth time, that she was able to win World Cup points again in 39th place. Lanny Barnes took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was the 23rd place in the individual. With the relay she finished 17th.

Barnes was able to take part in the 2014 Winter Olympics because her sister waived her place on the team. In Sochi , Barnes was 64th of the individual in her third participation in the Olympic Games. This race was also their last international biathlon race.
