Uljana Nikolajewna Kaischewa ( Russian Ульяна Николаевна Кайшева ; English transcription Uliana Kaisheva ; born March 8, 1994 in Moschga , Udmurtia ) is a Russian biathlete .

Career

Uljana Nikolajewna Kaischewa took part in international competitions for the first time as part of the Junior World Championships 2013 in Obertilliach . At these world championships she won in the sprint, in the pursuit, in the individual and with the relay. Kaischewa won all races in her age group. At the Junior European Championships of the same year she won the sprint race and was tenth in the pursuit.

The next year she won at the Junior European Championships , after a 27th place in individual, bronze in the sprint race and silver in the subsequent pursuit. With the Russian relay she could also win silver. In Presque Isle , she won bronze at the Junior World Championships in singles and silver in the relay. At the end of the season , Kaischewa started in the IBU Cup for the first time and finished sixth in the mixed relay. In the summer of the same year she also won bronze in the sprint at the Junior Summer Biathlon World Championships and was seventh in the following pursuit.

In the 2014/15 season , Uljana Kaischewa started in three sprint races of the IBU Cup and finished fourth and seventh. At the 2015 European Junior Championships she was fifth in the individual, won bronze in the sprint, silver in the pursuit and gold in the relay. At the subsequent Junior World Championships , she was able to win silver in the relay and reached sixth place in the individual.

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season , Kaischewa was second in both sprint races in Idre . In Ridnaun , Italy , she won her first race in the IBU Cup together with Wiktorija Sliwko , Matwei Jelissejew and Alexei Wolkow in the mixed relay. Then she reached 62nd place in her first World Cup sprint. She did not manage to get another podium place in the IBU Cup this season, but she was fourth twice and at the end of the season she was 17th in the overall standings.

Kaischewa was able to defend her victory with the Russian mixed relay at the beginning of the 2016/17 season . After she was second in the sprint, she won the pursuit race in Ridnaun. This was her first individual victory in the IBU Cup. Due to her good results, Kaischewa started the World Cup in January 2017 and finished 27th in each of the first two races in Oberhof , winning her first World Cup points. In Ruhpolding she ran again in both individual races in the points and reached 13th place with the relay. In Antholz she was 47th in the individual and could not qualify for the mass start. After her performance in the World Cup, she started again in the IBU Cup for the rest of the season. There she again reached two podium places and was fourth in the overall standings. At the 2017 Summer Biathlon World Championships , she won the mixed relay race with Svetlana Slepzowa , Alexei Volkov and Anton Schipulin .

The start of the 2017/18 season of the IBU Cup was promising with a win in the first race of the season. In the second sprint, Kaischewa was 14th but was able to win again with the mixed relay. In Lenzerheide she then won both the sprint and the pursuit. In Obertilliach , with a third place in the sprint, she achieved her fourth podium in the sixth individual race of the season. She achieved her second double victory of the season in Osrblie , where she won both sprint races. Like last year, she started again in Ruhpoldingen and Antholz in the World Cup , but clearly missed the points.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she participated as an Olympic athlete from Russia . Apart from Kaischewa, only Tatiana Akimova was invited as a biathlete by the International Olympic Committee . She achieved her best individual result with a 24th place in the individual. The Russian mixed relay was ninth. In addition to Kaischewa and Akimowa, Matwei Jelissejew and Anton Babikow started in the mixed relay.

In the mixed relay race in Kontiolahti , Kaischewa was fourth. In Oslo she reached the top ten in a World Cup race for the first time. She came eighth in the sprint and in the pursuit. At the World Cup finals in Tyumen she reached the 25th place in the sprint and in the pursuit. In the overall ranking of the World Cup, she reached 48th place.
