Tehvandi sports center
The Tehvandi Sports Center ( Estonian Tehvandi spordikeskus ) is a sports center for summer and winter sports in the rural municipality of Otepää , on the southeastern edge of the eponymous capital , in southeast Estonia .
History and use
The complex was opened on November 3, 1978 as a Soviet training facility in preparation for the Winter Olympics. From 1993 Tehvandi was the official Olympic center of the Estonian state, which has operated it since 2005 together with the city of Otepää and the Estonian Ski Association. The facilities are also widely used in skiing by athletes from neighboring countries, while in summer it is mainly Estonian athletes from the sports of athletics, football, orienteering, cycling, biathlon and triathlon.
Furnishing
The sports center Tehvandi includes, among other things, a stadium for football and athletics, facilities for biathlon and cross-country skiing as well as a ski jumping hill of the HS 100 category .
Sporting events
International sports competitions take place regularly in Tehvandi, such as competitions within the framework of the World Cup in cross-country skiing , ski orienteering , orienteering , Nordic combined and biathlon as part of the IBU Cup . In the 2021/22 season , a biathlon World Cup is to be held in Tehvandi for the first time.
