The Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide in Lantsch / Lenz is the largest biathlon stadium in Switzerland and is located at 1,400 m above sea level. M. She was on 7./8. Opened December 2013. Competitions for the Biathlon Swiss Cup and the Tour de Ski are held regularly in the arena . In the future, the biathlon world cup and the biathlon world championships will also take place here.
history
The project Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide was launched in 2006 in Lantsch / Lenz. The main initiator was Ursin Fravi, club trainer for biathlon / cross-country skiing and head of the Lantsch / Lenz municipal administration. He was supported by Leo Baselgia, president of the cross-country skiing club Bual, and by mayor Simon Willi.
The municipality of Lantsch / Lenz is the building owner and, through the operating company Nordic & Biathlon AG, the sole shareholder and owner of the Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 26, 2013, and the first construction phase was completed in November 2013. During this time, a snow-making system, a floodlight system along 4 km of the trails, a shooting range with 30 shooting lanes suitable for the World Cup, and water cooling for the snow-making system were built.
In the second construction phase in summer 2014, a 1.6 km long roller ski track was asphalted.
In the third construction phase in spring and summer 2016, an operating building and other infrastructure were built, which are required by the IBU for the implementation of competitions.
The first three construction stages (excluding the company building and the expansion of the roller ski run) cost 6.4 million Swiss francs.
In spring and summer 2017, the roller ski track was extended to 5 km in a fourth construction phase.
Also in the summer of 2017, the Biathlon Arena received the “A license” from the IBU and is now authorized to host competitions as part of the Biathlon World Cup and Biathlon World Championships . The Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide AG has been the owner and operator since 2017 .
The arena
location
The Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide is located on Alp Bual, north of the municipality of Lantsch / Lenz in the canton of Graubünden .
Spectator area
There are no permanently installed grandstands in the Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide. Temporarily erected grandstands are used for large events, with standing room along the route, the arena can accommodate up to 15,000 spectators.
Shooting range
At the 92.5 meter long shooting range with its 30 lanes, the athletes have a distance of 50 meters from the target. The shooting range is equipped with the German electronic system HoRa 2000 E , the most modern and widespread in the World Cup. The hits are triggered by an impulse from a sensor when the bullet hits the bullet, in contrast to the Kurvinen type folding disks from Finland, which are still sometimes used in the World Cup . Then a white target is pushed in front of the black target as a hit indicator. A sliding panel changes the size of the five hit fields per lane from 115 millimeters for the standing stop to 45 millimeters for the lying stop.
The shooting range is protected at the rear by a protective wall made of concrete and wooden protective walls to the left and right of the shooting range, which can be dismantled when not in use.
The penalty lap course is located to the east of the shooting range and is 150 meters long and 5 meters wide.
Two vehicle and one pedestrian underpasses in the direction of the Foppa car park ensure that athletes, officials and the media have access at all times to the shooting range building on the western edge of the stadium and the future Nordic House with restaurant and media center on the eastern edge of the stadium.
stretch
Cross-country trails
In winter, the Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide can use the cross-country ski trail network of the Lenzerheide region, which covers 52 kilometers. The most important cross-country trails for the biathlon races and the roller ski tracks have been newly laid out around the arena.
Roller ski tracks
There is a 9-meter-wide and 600-meter-long roller ski run for summer operation, which is used as the basis for the cross-country ski trail in winter.
In addition to the newly created 600 meter roller ski run, an extension of the roller ski run is planned for summer operation (a total of 2000 meters), which can be coupled with each other in variants.
Competitions
The Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide was opened on 7/8. December 2013 with the Biathlon Swiss Cup , followed by the FIS Tour de Ski 2013/2014. The biathlon junior world championships were held at the beginning of 2020 .
In a first step, the Biathlon Arena Lenzerheide receives the B license from the IBU (up to and including the IBU Cup) and after completion of construction the A license ( Biathlon World Cup , Biathlon World Championships ), explains the technical delegate of the International Biathlon Union IBU, Robert Zwahlen.
