Athletic career

Russia

Natalja Burdyga was a very successful junior biathlete. She made her international debut at the 2003 Junior European Championships in Forni Avoltri . She started in the sprint, pursuit and relay race and won gold medals in all three competitions. Since the 2003/04 season she took part in the Junior European Cup and won her first sprint race in Ridnaun . The 2004 Junior World Championships in Haute-Maurienne , where 16th place in the sprint was the best result, were not quite as successful . Shortly afterwards she had more success at the European Junior Championships in Minsk . With the relay she won the gold medal again, in the individual she was second behind Jelena Dawgul , in sprint and pursuit she just missed further medals in fourth place.

Since the 2004/05 season she has competed in the women 's European biathlon cup . It only took a short time to achieve the first single-digit results. Between 2005 and 2006, apart from the Summer Biathlon World Championships in 2006 , where she won two gold medals, she did not take part in any international competitions.

In October 2006 the IBU announced that Burdyga had tested positive for Carphedon after two victories at the Summer Biathlon World Championships . Burdyga was then banned for two years, both titles were revoked and all results since the positive tests were corrected.

The next major event was the 2009 European Biathlon Championships in Ufa . In the sprint race she reached ninth place, in the individual she ran on the 17th and in the pursuit on the 13th place. She has been competing in the World Cup since the beginning of the 2009/2010 season . In her first race, an individual in Östersund, Burdyga finished 29th and won her first World Cup points. With 22nd place in Pokljuka, she was able to achieve her best World Cup result to date.

Ukraine

For the 2010/11 season she moved from the Russian to the Ukrainian association. In Nové Město na Moravě Burdyha won her first race in the IBU Cup in the first race in 2011 with the individual .

Since the middle of the season she has been used regularly in the World Cup and was able to equalize her best World Cup result in a sprint in Presque Isle in 22nd place. In the further course of the season she took part in Nové Město na Moravě in the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2011 , in which she was eighth in the sprint and seventh in the pursuit.

Before that, she started at the end of the preseason in Khanty-Mansiysk for the first time in biathlon world championships and was 18th in the individual. Burdyha achieved her breakthrough in the World Cup in the 2011/12 season with eighth place in the Oberhof sprint and thus a top ten placement for the first time. In Nové Město she was after an eleventh place in the sprint and improved in the following pursuit race in sixth her personal best placement.

In 2014 she took part in the Olympic Games in Sochi and reached seventh place with the mixed relay.
