Alexander Michailowitsch Gubin ( Russian Александр Михайлович Губин ; born August 24, 1935 in Kirovskoye , Alapayevsk district in Sverdlovsk Oblast ) is a former Soviet cross-country skier . He was the first Soviet champion in biathlon .

Life

Gubin started for SKA St. Petersburg and has always been a cross-country skier as well as a biathlete during his sports career. In 1958 he won the first Soviet title in individual biathlon and was a member of the Soviet national team from the start. At the first biathlon world championship in 1958 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer , he and Viktor Butakow , Valentin Pschenizyn and Dmitri Sokolow came second in the still unofficial relay competition behind the representation from Sweden, and in the individual competition he reached tenth place. He took part in the Winter Olympics in 1960 and 1964 as a cross-country skier . In Squaw Valley he started in the 15 km competition and finished fifteenth, in Innsbruck he placed fourteenth in the ski marathon over 50 kilometers. For his sporting achievements he was honored as a master of sport in the international class .

Gubin graduated from the State University of Physical Culture in Leningrad with a training as a coach . After his sports career, he first worked as a lecturer at the Leningrad State University , then at the SM Kirov Military Medical Academy . After the end of his professional life he moved to Torkowitschi in Luga district .
