Marte Olsbu Røiseland , b. Marte Olsbu (born December 7, 1990 in Arendal ) is a Norwegian biathlete .

Career

Marte Olsbu Røiseland lives in Froland and starts for the local association. She has been a member of the Norwegian national team since 2011. She made her international debut at the start of the 2010/11 season in Beitostølen in the IBU Cup and immediately won points as the 31st of a sprint. The first international championships were the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2011 in Nové Město na Moravě . Olsbu finished ninth in the individual, 37th in the sprint and 27th in the pursuit. In the 2011/12 season she regularly took part in the IBU Cup. In Canmore she achieved her best result of the season in tenth place. At the start of the 2012/13 season she missed notable results in Idre as 40th and 29th in sprint races, but was used for the first time in the World Cup a week later in Östersund . There she immediately achieved a placement in the points in an individual with rank 28. In the 2013/14 season she reached a sprint in Pokljuka , her first appearance of the season in the top series of biathlon competitions, as tenth and for the first time a place in the top ten.

Nationally Røiseland won the championship runner-up behind Tora Berger at the 2011 championships in Målselv and the bronze medal in the mass start race in Trondheim in 2012 behind Tora Berger and Synnøve Solemdal .

For the 2014/15 season Røiseland was appointed to the senior national team of Norway. This season she started for the first time at the Biathlon World Championships . She finished 30th in the sprint and fourth in the relay. The following season she took part in the World Championships in Oslo . After she won the bronze medal with the mixed relay, she narrowly missed the top ten in the sprint with an eleventh place. Together with Synnøve Solemdal , Fanny Horn Birkeland and Tiril Eckhoff , she won the relay race five seconds ahead of France.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , Røiseland won another relay race, this time the mixed relay with Birkeland, Ole Einar Bjørndalen and Johannes Thingnes Bø . This season was her best so far, which she finished twelfth in the overall standings

In 2018, Marte Olsbu Røiseland qualified as the best Norwegian in the World Cup for her first Olympic Games . In the first race, the sprint, she won the silver medal, also in the mixed relay, here together with Tiril Eckhoff, Johannes Thingnes Bø and Emil Hegle Svendsen . She finished the season 14th overall

In the first third of the 2018/19 season , Røiseland celebrated her first Sprint World Cup victory in Nové Město , Czech Republic, ahead of Laura Dahlmeier and Paulína Fialková . She won the persecution that followed. In January she was able to build on these successes with several results among the top ten, including a third place in Antholz . At the North America World Cup in Soldier Hollow , she achieved her third race success in the sprint. At the World Championships in Östersund she won no medal in any individual race, but gold in all three relay competitions. Overall, she was fourth in the overall World Cup.

At the World Championships in Antholz, Olsbu Røiseland set a record set by Laura Dahlmeier by winning a medal in all disciplines. Since the single-mixed relay has only been played at world championships since 2019, it won seven medals, one more than Dahlmeier. There were five gold medals and two bronze medals in total. Not a single athlete in biathlon succeeded in this before.

Private

Marte Olsbu married the biathlon trainer Sverre Røiseland (* 1990) on August 11, 2018, with whom she has been friends since the Sirdal Ski School more than 10 years ago. Both now have the family name Olsbu Røiseland .
