Røen reached ninth place in the 50 km individual race at Holmenkollen in 1926. The following year he was tenth. After he subsequently achieved good results in the pre-Olympic qualifying races, he received a place in the squad at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . There he started exclusively over the 50 km, but had to stop the race after a good two and a half hours lying in 24th place and did not reach the finish. Shortly after the games, he became French champion in Chamonix. After the winter of 1928, he ended his active sports career.
His brother Sigurd Røen , who was six years his junior , became world champion in Nordic combined and cross-country skiing in 1937.
