Ski boarding school Furtwangen
In the ski boarding school Furtwangen Baden-Württemberg GmbH (hereinafter referred to as SKIF) in the Black Forest, young top athletes from the Baden-Württemberg ski associations receive training at one of the Furtwangen schools as well as sports training. The young athletes from around 15 years of age build a professional existence and at the same time receive individual competitive sports funding in the disciplines of biathlon , cross-country skiing , Nordic combined and ski jumping . It should be prevented that the young athletes only devote themselves to sport and then at the end of their sports career are faced with nothing at all.
history
The first plans for the ski boarding school of the Baden sports official Fredy Stober (1910-2010) date from the 1970s. The opening took place in 1984. In 1998 the German Sports Association awarded the very effectively and successfully working sports boarding school the coveted title of "Elite School of Sports". The German Savings Banks and Giro Association makes an important contribution to securing the future of the SKIF by promoting the elite sports school. In 2006 the ski boarding school in Furtwangen was selected as one of 365 locations that represented Germany as part of the “ Land of Ideas ” campaign.
The boarding school was housed in the Don Bosco home of the Salesians of Don Bosco from the start . After their departure on September 30, 2010, the house was taken over by Skiinternat Furtwangen Baden-Württemberg GmbH, in which the city of Furtwangen, the Baden-Württemberg Young Olympic Foundation and the International Association IB are involved. It is a dormitory for trainees and vocational students. The young athletes are also looked after by the staff of the International Federation IB. This includes accommodation and full board as well as educational support for the young people.
Sports support
The SKIF has various training rooms as well as its own offices for the coaching staff. Several specialist trainers, mostly former top athletes, are employed here for each discipline. Basic training takes place in the training rooms in the ski boarding school. SBW Leistungssport GmbH and the Olympic Training Center in Freiburg-Black Forest are also successfully involved in ensuring that the athletic side is optimal in support and school attendance. The Freiburg Olympic Training Center supports the SKIF with its services in the fields of sports medicine and sports science, as well as career advice.
In addition, the athletes train on various training facilities in the region, which are often designed for year-round operation. B. on the ski jump in Hinterzarten , on the biathlon course in Schönwald or in the alpine performance center on the Feldberg . In addition, depending on the squad (the best belong to the junior national team or even to the national team in the respective sport) there are courses at national and international training centers for the athletes .
School supervision
In addition to sports training and competitions, the athletes attend local schools:
- The Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium with Realschule has three trains: a linguistic, a mathematical-scientific and a sports train ( website of the school )
- The Robert-Gerwig-Schule as a vocational school with a state vocational school (this also includes the watchmaking school founded by Robert Gerwig ), a trade school , a vocational college and a technical and business grammar school
