Viola Bauer (born December 13, 1976 in Annaberg-Buchholz ) is a former German cross-country skier . She is a qualified social pedagogue and sports soldier in the Bundeswehr .

Viola Bauer was considered an outspoken classical music specialist and won bronze in the relay at the 1999 World Championships , gold in the relay and bronze in the pursuit at the 2002 Winter Olympics and gold in the relay at the 2003 World Championships . At the 2006 Winter Olympics , she finished fifth in the team sprint with Evi Sachsenbacher-Stehle and won silver with the German relay team. She won another silver medal with the relay at the 2007 World Cup in Sapporo .

On March 11, 2007, she celebrated the best World Cup result of her career with third place over 10 km classic in Lahti . She played her last competition on March 25, 2007 in Falun , where she celebrated a victory with the German relay team.

After retiring from competitive sports , she worked as a co-commentator at Eurosport during the Tour de Ski 07/08 and the 2010 Winter Olympics .

Bauer has lived in the home of her Greek husband, the cross-country skier Lefteris Fafalis, since 2007 . In the summer of 2009 she gave birth to her first daughter.
