Lyubov Ivanovna Jegorowa ( Russian Любовь Ивановна Егорова , born May 5, 1966 in Seversk ) is a former Soviet / Russian cross-country skier .
Career
Yegorova won six gold medals at the Winter Olympics : 1992 in Albertville over 10 km (pursuit race), 15 km (mass start) and with the 4 × 5 km relay, in 1994 in Lillehammer over 5 km, 10 km (pursuit race) and with the 4 × 5 km relay. In addition, she became world champion three times: in 1991 over 30 km and with the relay, in 1993 with the relay. In 1993 she won the overall ranking of the cross-country skiing world cup. In 1994 she received the Holmenkollen Medal .
In April 1994, Yegorova was awarded the Hero of the Russian Federation by a decree of the then Russian President Boris Yeltsin .
During the 1997 World Cup, the doping control at Jegorowa demonstrated the use of the anabolic steroid bromantane . On February 26, 1997, three days after her victory in the 5 km race, she was stripped of her gold medal (this went to Jelena Välbe ). After the two-year ban, she tried a comeback, but was never able to build on her earlier performances and finally resigned in 2003.
