Marija Ivanovna Gussakowa , born in Kudimowa ( Russian Мария Ивановна Гусакова ; born February 2, 1931 in Timoschkino, Ryazan Oblast ) is a former Russian cross-country skier who started for the Soviet Union in the 1950s and 1960s .

Career

Gussakowa made her international debut at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1958 in Lahti . There she was sixth over 10 km. At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley she won the gold medal over 10 km, with the Russian relay she won silver. The following year she won the Svenska Skidspelen with the relay. At the 1962 World Championships in Zakopane , she won the bronze medal over 5 km, the silver medal over 10 km and the gold medal with the relay. In the same year she won third place over 10 km and second place with the relay at the Svenska Skidspelen. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , she won the bronze medal over 10 km. In March 1964, she triumphed over 10 km at the Lahti Ski Games . At the Soviet championships Gussakowa won four times with the relay (1958, 1961, 1962, 1966), twice over 10 km (1960, 1961) and once over 5 km (1961). She was married to the former Nordic combined skier Nikolai Gussakow .
