Anni Helena Takalo , born in Kivioja (born October 28, 1947 in Nivala ) is a former Finnish cross-country skier .

Career

Takalo, who started for the Nivalan Urheilijat, won third place in the relay at the Svenska Skidspelen in 1966 . The following year she took third place with the relay and second place over 10 km at the Lahti Ski Games . At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , she managed 22nd place over 5 km. In early March 1968 she won the Lahti Ski Games with the relay. In 1969 she came third at the Svenska Skidspelen in Falun with the relay and first place over 10 km. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Vysoké Tatry , she won the bronze medal with the relay. In March 1970 she triumphed over 10 km at the Lahti Ski Games. In 1971 she won third place at the Svenska Skidspelen and second place with the relay at the Lahti Ski Games in 1971 and 1972. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , she won the silver medal with the relay. In the individual races she was there ninth over 5 km and fifth over 10 km.

After Takalo took third place over 10 km and second place with the relay at the Svenska Skidspelen in 1973 , she won the Lahti Ski Games with the relay. The following year she was third in the relay at the Lahti Ski Games. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1974 in Falun , she won the bronze medal over 10 km and also came fourth in the relay. In 1975 she ran with the relay at the Lahti Ski Games and the Svenska Skidspelen in second place. She also took third place over 10 km at the Lahti Ski Games. At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , she won the silver medal with the relay and over 10 km and the gold medal over 5 km. In the same year she came in third place at the Lahti Ski Games over 10 km and with the relay and also won the 5 km and 10 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival . For this she was honored with the Holmenkollen Medal the following year . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 , she won the bronze medal over 20 km and the gold medal with the relay and over 5 km. In addition, she came in 13th place over 10 km. Two years later she won the bronze medal over 10 km at her last Olympic participation in Lake Placid . In addition, she ran there in eighth place over 5 km and in fifth place with the relay. In March 1980 she was at the Lahti Ski Games behind Hilkka Riihivuori second over 10 km. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 she came in fourth place with the relay. In Finnish championships she won four times over 5 km (1971, 1975-76, 1978), and twice over 10 km (1975, 1976) and with the relay (1977, 1980).

Takalo was also active as a track and field athlete . In 1971 she became Finnish cross-country champion . In 1975, 1976 and 1978 she was Sportswoman of the Year in Finland.
