(14309) Defoy is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 22, 1908 by the Austrian astronomer Johann Palisa in Vienna .
(14309) Defoy moves on an unusually eccentric orbit and thus comes close to the orbit of Mars .
The asteroid was named after Ilse Defoy (1892-1947), the mother of the Heidelberg astronomer Joachim Schubart , whose observations of (14309) Defoy helped to calculate its orbit.
