The 39th Nordic World Ski Championships were held from February 19 to 28, 1993 in the Swedish city of Falun , where the World Championships had already taken place in 1954 and 1974.
Again, the most successful nation was Norway with six gold medals. Russia and Japan each won gold three times, but there were also numerous silver and bronze medals for the Russian athletes, which was not the case with the Japanese. A really big one of the cross-country skiing scene also triumphed here: The Norwegian Bjørn Dæhlie won three gold medals and a bronze one. The Japanese Kenji Ogiwara - twice gold - in Nordic combined and Norway Espen Bredesen - also twice gold - in ski jumping were also very successful . In the women won Stefania Belmondo ( Italy ) and Larissa Lasutina (Russia) in cross-country two gold medals and one silver in addition ever.

Date: February 27, 1993 On the small hill, the ÖSV jumpers felt disadvantaged, as the jury had Stefan Horngacher shortened after a 92.5 m jump (2.5 m above the K-point) and gave him a chance for a medal brought. The point of criticism was that on the large hill Bredesen had jumped the K-point by 10.5 m and had not been shortened.

The placement of the German team was the worst World Cup result since the competition was introduced eleven years earlier, which was mainly due to the now outdated parallel style . Some of the German ski jumpers had not yet switched to the new V style .
- Since the registration for the World Cup took place before the separation of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia started as a joint team.
