Ľubomíra Balážová (born August 13, 1968 in Štrba as Ľubomíra Ilanovská ) is a former Czechoslovak cross-country skier .

Career

Balážová, who started for the CH Štrbské Pleso, appeared internationally for the first time at the 1987 World Championships in Oberstdorf . There she took 46th place over 5 km classic and 39th place over 20 km freestyle. The following year she ran at the Winter Olympics in Calgary on 33rd place over 20 km freestyle, 30th place over 5 km classic and 27th place over 10 km classic. In addition, she won there together with Viera Klimková , Ivana Rádlová and Alžběta Havrančíková in seventh place in the season. At the 1989 World Championships in Lahti she ran to 39th place over 10 km classic and to fifth place with the relay and at the 1991 World Championships in Val di Fiemme to 19th place over 15 km classic, to 16th place 5 km classic and eighth place with the relay. In the 1991/92 season she made three points in the World Cup and achieved her best individual placement in the World Cup with tenth place over 5 km classic in Funäsdalen and her best overall result at the end of the season with 24th place in the overall World Cup. At the season highlight, the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , she finished 26th in the pursuit, 13th place over 15 km classic and 11th place over 5 km classic. In addition, she won there together with Kateřina Neumannová , Alžběta Havrančíková and Iveta Zelingerová in sixth place in the season. The following year she won the gold medal at the Winter Universiade in Zakopane over 10 km freestyle and 10 km classic. In March 1993 she was third with the relay at the World Cup in Oslo . Her best placings at the 1993 World Championships in Falun were 14th place over 15 km classic and fifth place with the relay and at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer 18th place over 30 km classic and seventh place with the relay. At the 1997 World Championships in Trondheim , she was eleventh with the relay. She completed her last World Cup race in January 1998 in Ramsau am Dachstein , which she finished in 57th place in the pursuit.

At the Czechoslovak Championships Balážová won three times over 10 km (1988, 1989, 1991) and once with the relay of CH Štrbské Pleso (1988). In addition, she became Czechoslovak junior champion over 10 km in 1986 and in 1987 and 1988 over 5 km and 10 km, respectively.
