Andrea Cecon (born July 18, 1970 in Gemona del Friuli ) is a former Italian Nordic combined skier .

Career

Cecon won the bronze medal at the Italian Championships in 1988 behind Stefano Lunardi and Gianpaolo Mosele . After the championships were canceled in 1989, he won his first Italian championship title in 1990 in front of Andrea Bezzi and Andrea Longo . A year later he won silver behind Paolo Bernardi . After he won his second national title at the championships in 1992, he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on January 11, 1992 in Breitenwang . He immediately achieved a place in the points ranking with 13th place and thus won his first World Cup points. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1993 in Falun , he reached sixth place with the team in the team competition. During his subsequent starts in the World Cup, he was placed in the top ten for the first time and thus achieved valuable World Cup points. He finished the 1993/94 season in 14th place overall.

At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he appeared for the first time in combination and ski jumping. In the individual combination he reached 33rd place after a 27th place in jumping. Together with Andrea Longo and Simone Pinzani , he reached 11th place in the team competition, more than 22 minutes behind. He was nominated for the team competition in team jumping together with his brother Roberto Cecon as well as Ivan Lunardi and Ivo Pertile . The team reached eighth place. At the Italian Championships that took place shortly after the Games, Cecon won his third championship title after 1990 and 1992. In the 1994/95 season he finished 35th in the World Cup with 175 points. From 1996 he started for two years in the B World Cup, where he won in Calgary and Štrbské Pleso . In 1998 he won the Italian Championships for the fourth time. Shortly afterwards he switched back to the World Cup.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein , Cecon reached 20th place in the Gundersen singles. In the sprint he was in 38th place in the end. The 1998/99 season he finished a short time later in 43rd place in the overall standings. After he got no more points at the start of the following season, he ended his active career in 2000.
