Samo Gostiša (born September 16, 1972 in Logatec ) is a former Yugoslav and later Slovenian ski jumper .

Career

Gostiša jumped on March 24, 1990 for the first time in the ski jumping world cup in his adopted home Planica . Gostiša, who was still starting for Yugoslavia at that time, was accepted into the ski jumping squad of the newly founded Slovenian Ski Association in his first season in 1991, despite rather mediocre results. On January 4, 1992, he achieved World Cup points for the first time in the Slovenian jersey. When jumping in Innsbruck as part of the Four Hills Tournament 1991/92 he was twelfth. One day later in Bischofshofen he was able to repeat this placement. Two weeks after the tour he jumped in St. Moritz for the first time with an 8th place among the top ten in a World Cup competition.

At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , Gostiša jumped to 12th place on the normal hill and 22nd place on the large hill together with the Swiss Stephan Zünd . In team jumping he reached 6th place together with Franci Petek , Matjaž Zupan and Primož Kopač .

For the 1992/93 season he also started in the Continental Cup (COC) for the first time , after he could not achieve any success in the first competitions of the season in the World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 1993 , he surprisingly jumped to 6th place on the normal hill and reached 18th place on the large hill. In the team competition at the end of the season in Planica he was able to jump on the podium for the first and last time in his career with third place.

In the following season 1993/94 he started again exclusively in the World Cup, but remained far below expectations in all competitions. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer he was again part of the Slovenian squad and jumped to 28th place on the normal hill. In team jumping he reached 9th place together with Robert Meglič , Matjaž Zupan and Matjaž Kladnik . At the ski flying world championships in Planica , which took place a short time later , Gostiša flew to 34th place.

Since he was unsuccessful in the following World Cup competitions, he started again in the World Cup and Continental Cup in 1994. It stayed that way until the end of his career. In the Continental Cup he was able to achieve his best result in the 1995/96 season with 19th place overall. In the same year he was also able to jump into the top ten a few times in the World Cup. At the ski flying world championship in 1996 on Kulm , he reached 25th place.

In the seasons 1996/97 and 1997/98 there were no further successes, so that after 9 years of professional ski jumping Gostiša ended his active ski jumping career with ski flying on March 23rd in his home town of Planica .
