The 45th German Nordic Ski Championships took place from February 7th to 11th, 1962 in Braunlage , Lower Saxony . The ski jumping runs were held on the Wurmbergschanze .

In addition, on March 17 and 18, 1962, the cross-country skiing championships in the ski marathon and the club relay took place in Reit im Winkl , Bavaria .

In front of 20,000 spectators, Helmut Wegscheider caused the biggest surprise of the ski championships by winning the championship title . For the first time, a championship in special jumping was held according to the new FIS regulations , according to which each participant has three jumps, but only the best two count.
