Jean-Baptiste Henri Deshays de Colleville , called Deshays or "le Romain" (born November 27, 1729 in Colleville near Rouen , † February 10, 1765 in Paris ) was a French history painter.

He began his painting apprenticeship in Rouen with his father, Jean-Dominique Deshays and continued it with Jean-Baptiste Descamps in his Ecole Gratuite de Dessin. He then went to Paris, where he studied in the studios of Hyacinthe Collin de Vermont and between 1749 and 1751 with Jean Restout the Younger . During this period Deshays took part in the “Prix de Rome” competition and won second prize.

He stayed from 1754 to 1757 under the direction of Charles-Joseph Natoire at the Académie de France in Rome, which earned him the nickname "Roman". After his stay in Rome, he completed a three-year training course at the École des eleves protégés under the direction of Charles André van Loo .

In 1758 he became a member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture .

Deshays married the elder daughter of François Boucher . His younger brother, François Bruno Deshays de Colleville, became a portraitist.
